Men Suffering with Prostate Cancer

Compared with the spread of prostate cancer, men suffer from the disease of prostate cancer, but in a more subtle way. Men suffer silently because very little attention in the public arena is focusing on men. How sad when men are forced to suffer in silence simply because they are men. Are you one of the prostate cancer survivors? Did you suffer the same ordeal of humility and agonizing pain? Did you have a wife, children, family members and friends you hold dear to surround you with love and support?

Prostate cancer today is so much more survivable than it ever was. Perhaps one day this horrible, debilitating malady will finally be put to rest and on a list of other past diseases that are gone because of medical science. However, it the meantime, you must persevere and continue the march forward into all of the tomorrows. Understand that this is no easy feat to accomplish, but all survivors, all the men everywhere must stand tall together and continue to bring attention to this taker of lives. Remembering too that although older men are the ones to predominantly be afflicted, there is a population of younger men who receive a diagnosis of prostate cancer too.

Emotional stress going through your mind during your time in treatment for prostate cancer is weighing very heavily on you. What you probably remember well are all the up and down days as some treatments worked for you and some treatments did not work for you. You have traveled such a long and difficult road, but the outcome is a positive one and your rewards are there in front of you for the taking. You are relieved after all this time to feel rewarded with a clean bill of health, but the entire ordeal you had to endure will stay with you for the rest of your life.

Statistics express a man’s lifetime risk of receiving a diagnosis of prostate cancer is one in six and it does not change the fact that younger men get this deadly disease too. The rate of survival remains the same as the survival rate of older men. The most obvious symptom of prostate cancer is transurethral resection.

Transurethral resection of the prostate is a road for the medical physician and the patient to travel when necessary. The treatment utilizes medication to destroy and weaken the cancer cells remaining within the body. This will include cells at the original site. Some of the effects to the body for the individual and the medical physician to watch for are the following:

Recurrent urinary tract infection

Bladder calculus or stones

Hematuria which is blood in the urine

Frequent episodes of retention of urine

Retention of urine leading to renal or kidney damage

Alpha-blockers used in the treatment of prostate cancer are Terazocin, Doxazocin,Tamsulosin, and Alfuzocin. These are specific prescriptions to relax the muscles that are around and near the bladder neck and to increase the passage of urine with little or no pain.

Medications with lower doses increase gradually to the medical physicians directive of what is in the best interest of the patient. Some of the side effects to watch for are a drop in the blood pressure, pupil eye disorders and postural hypotension is another risk factor to make note.

Remember the old mid life crisis when you and your friends ran out the front door to buy that fancy car you always had your heart set on? Well now that you have settled back down again and back into the realities do you understand what your diagnosis means? Does it mean death to you? Well there is no reason to even think that way.
